Community over Competition. This is one of the foundational mantras that I built my business on. This beautiful boho-inspired maternity session was a perfect example of this mindset.
Danica Creamer Photography, a friend and fellow photographer who has been mentoring with me for a few months now, and I planned this session with local mama and blogger Katie to celebrate her last pregnancy. We could not have picked a more perfect model. Katie knocked it out of the park with her intuitive posing and the trust she put into Danica and me to create photos that let you feel the love for her baby. Her fun energy had us laugh out loud several times and made this photo session even more enjoyable.
We chose a beautiful beach in Boynton Beach, Florida as the setting for these photos. One thing, I am always looking for when I chose the locations for my sessions is variety, textures, and great light to create the perfect atmosphere and depth for the photos. It helps to live in a place that others vacation in. South Florida truly is paradise.
There is such beauty in coming together to create. Different minds aligning to fill the world with a bit more beauty. A bit more creativity. A bit more hope. I live for these moments. When time seems to stand still and you are right at this moment, not thinking about the next thing, just being, fully, immersed in the art before your eyes. Knowing that the person next to you is feeling the exact same thing.
Even the days after the photoshoot are, in their own way, full of excitement. Uploading the photos on your computer. Choosing the best edit to approach the mood in them. Meeting with your friend to go over the shots you both got. The difference in how you both saw the moment. The similarities. It’s a high. It’s the feeling I could best describe as being absolutely passionate about something. To have somebody to share that with, who understands exactly how you are feeling.
I will say it again and again, the best thing about what I do is the people I meet through my work. The lovely and kind mamas & families, the spirited kids, the talented photographers.
I’ve been doing a workshop with one of my favorite photographers Twyla Jones and one of the practices asked about what it is that brings me pure joy. I would say, this is it. Sessions like this. Moments with kind-hearted people like Danica and Katie. Meetups with other creatives, inspiring each other and lifting each other up. That to me, is pure joy.
